Juru to help develop Roadmap for Industrial Decarbonisation in Uzbekistan
#News April 29, 2021
Juru Energy, together with consortium partners LDK Consultants Engineers and Planners SA, Greece; International Synergies Ltd, UK; and Unicase CA LLC, Uzbekistan, has been hired by the World Bank to support the GoU in developing innovative technological solutions for decarbonizing the industrial sector in Uzbekistan.
The consortium team is currently conducting a comprehensive assessment of Uzbekistan’s industrial sector and its decarbonisation potential through applying innovative technological solutions such as demand-side measures, renewable energy & energy efficiency, smart grid, digital, factory energy management system (FEMS), carbon capture utilisation and storage (CCUS), biomass/hydrogen as a feedstock/fuel, as well as Industry 4.0 tools to monitor and optimise energy use. This will be followed by industrial symbiosis assessment of representative economic zones and their decarbonisation pathways to Eco-Industrial Parks (EIP). The results of the analyses will then be used to develop the Roadmap to decarbonise the industrial sector in Uzbekistan.
Given industry sector in Uzbekistan currently accounts for 40% of total electricity consumption, associated with inefficient energy consumption and GHG emissions, this assignment serves as an enabler to reduce energy and carbon intensity of the economy, also facilitating the achievement of targets set in the Strategy for Uzbekistan’s Transition to Green Economy for 2019-2030.
